What is ISTDP?

Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy, or ISTDP, is a revolutionary approach to psychotherapy that offers rapid relief from suffering, reduction of symptoms, and long term change for your difficulties.

The approach was created following extensive research which concluded that talk therapy and therapeutic approaches that focus on insight alone, were not able to create lasting change and symptom relief of a person's issues.

What is different about ISTDP?

The problem that many therapeutic approaches face is that they have an idea of how psychological problems occur, but they don't really have a precise approach on how to alleviate them effectively.

ISTDP is a very purposeful and precise approach to therapy.

What this means is that an accurate understanding is built up of how your difficulties have occurred and then specific steps are taken to help you to alleviate those difficulties.

Although the approach relies on a systematic, organised and precise method to overcoming difficulties, it is not a 'one size fits all approach'.

Instead the therapy is tailored to each individual's specific difficulties and aims for therapy.

What to expect from an ISTDP therapy

ISTDP is a hugely engaged and interactive form of therapy.  As an ISTDP therapist I am highly present in the process and will provide immediate and continual feedback to you throughout the process.

This kind of collaboration between myself and my clients is essential in overcoming the inevitable blocks that are creating a persons difficulties, many such blocks happen so automatically that a person is not even aware they are occurring.

By making them more conscious to a person they can begin to make significant improvements in their mental wellbeing.

The therapy begins by understanding the root causes of your difficulties and the reasons for the difficulties current maintenance.

Once we are aware of this we can then work together to overcome the blocks that are stopping you from living the life you want.

What can ISTDP help with?

Although this is not an exhaustive list, here are some of the difficulties that ISTDP has been shown to help with:

  • Anxiety and panic disorders

  • Depression and treatment-resistant depression

  • Personality disorders

  • Medically unexplained symptoms

  • Chronic pain and headaches

  • Self-defeating behaviours

  • Emotional blocks

  • Relational problems

Therapy to help you create meaningful change.
